Rechargeable batteries perform valuable work every day in numerous areas - whether in cleaning machines, forklift trucks, safety systems or UPS systems. Proper care is crucial to ensure that they function reliably for many years.
Whether for daily or seasonal use: If you follow a few basic rules, you can significantly extend the service life of lead-acid batteries and increase their reliability. Our "Golden rules" show you what is important.
Our golden rules for long-lasting batteries:
- Use a suitable charger
Make sure that the charger and battery are optimally matched - this protects against overcharging or undercharging.
- Do not forget to charge for the first time
Charge the battery at least 24 hours before the first useto activate its full capacity.
- Avoid deep discharge
A discharge of more than 60 % can have a negative effect on the service life - regular recharging is ideal.
- Do not store empty
The battery should not be completely discharged even if it is not used for a longer period of time - a minimum charge level protects the cells.
- Charging with the load switched off
When charging, the connected load should be switched off in order to optimise the charging conditions.
- Regular winter care
If batteries are not used for a longer period of time, e.g. in winter, they should be recharged for 24 hours at least every two months.
Why good care is worthwhile
With the right handling - regardless of how often the battery is used - you will noticeably extend the service life of your lead-acid battery. You benefit from:
- longer operating time for your devices
- Reduced costs for replacement batteries
- More reliability in daily use
Just a few simple measures help to maintain full performance in the long term.
