Time-variable grid fees: New opportunities for solar installers

From April 2025, time-variable grid charges will be mandatory. This opens up new opportunities for specialist photovoltaic companies to advise their customers even more efficiently and optimise their electricity costs in the long term. AKKU SYS supports you in making the best possible use of this innovation.

What are time-variable grid charges?

With the new regulations, the electricity price will no longer be fixed, but will vary depending on certain factors:

  • Three tariff levels (low, standard and high tariff)
  • Regulation by grid operator (depending on time, season and region)
  • Necessary technology: Smart meters & controllable consumers in accordance with §14a EnWG (e.g. wallboxes)

The advantage?

  • If you use electricity in more favourable time windows, you can save costs!
  • Maximum savings through intelligent energy management
  • Dynamic electricity tariffs + time-variable grid charges = maximum savings

Maximum savings through intelligent energy management

Dynamic electricity tariffs + time-variable grid charges = maximum savings

The total electricity price is made up of several components: Dynamic electricity prices, time-variable grid charges, taxes, levies and surcharges Dynamic electricity tariffs already enable flexible adjustment to price fluctuations. Consumption times can be specifically shifted to favourable tariff times. An energy management system controls energy consumption efficiently and thus helps to reduce energy costs. Variable time-based grid charges adapt to the current demand for electricity. This allows costs to be reduced even further.

Example:

Those who charge their electric car at night benefit twice over:

  • Lower electricity costs thanks to dynamic tariffs
  • Lower grid charges thanks to optimised grid load

Better grid utilisation - less grid expansion required

By shifting electricity consumption to more cost-effective time windows, the grid is loaded more evenly. This reduces peak loads and can reduce the short-term need for additional grid expansion.
